The Masteka Log

a Whitsundays chronicle — special edition

Between the adventures

Life Aboard

For every race, climb and murder, there were hours of the other thing: the fine art of doing absolutely nothing, at sea, extremely well.

Bow seats, underway. The best cinema in the Whitsundays, and no tickets required.

The itinerary said paddle, climb, race, solve. The boat said: or, you know, don’t.

The discipline

Competitive relaxation

Lounging aboard Masteka 2 was practised with the same commitment the company brought to everything else. Positions were claimed early — the bow loungers, the aft-deck benches, the sun-warmed teak itself — and held for hours against all comers. The week’s true endurance event, arguably.

A further batch of lounging evidence is in transit from the Downloads folder. Slots will be added as it lands — the couch, like the log, always has room.

The venue

And the yacht herself

None of this idleness would have been possible without a venue of genius. For the record, the facility: thirty-seven metres of her, photographed through the week from lookouts, tenders and beaches — usually by people on their way back to lie down on her.
